How do garbage trucks work in Taiwan?

In Taiwan, residents bring their trash directly to yellow municipal garbage trucks that arrive at scheduled stops 5 nights a week. The trucks play music (such as 'Für Elise' or 'A Maiden’s Prayer') to signal their arrival.

Do I need special bags for garbage in New Taipei City?

Yes. General non-recyclable household waste must be placed inside certified official New Taipei City (or Taipei City) designated trash bags, which can be purchased at any convenience store (7-Eleven, FamilyMart) or supermarket.

How do I sort trash and recycling in Taiwan?

Separate items into 3 categories: 1) General Waste (in official blue bags), 2) Recyclables (clean plastic, paper, glass, cans in standard bags or bins), and 3) Food Waste (dumped directly into the food waste bucket mounted on the truck).
